10 Architectural Design

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: David Eastwood.

This course prepares students for Level 1 Architectural Design at NCEA Level 1 and leads pathways at university level in the areas of construction, engineering, interior design, landscape design, architecture, and urban planning and many trade based qualifications.

Across the year students will produce creative design ideas in response to different design briefs. They will learn visual communication skills and techniques, such as drawing, drafting, 3D modelling and 3D rendering to present their ideas.

Students will experiment, develop, respond to feedback, and reflect on their design thinking to improve and refine their ideas that they create. This course will encompass ideation, exploration, progression, and communication of design ideas into potential outcomes within the areas of spatial and architectural design.  


Subject Overview

Term 1
Use a range of sketching styles and methods to communicate design ideas
Use rendering to show the form and detail of objects.
Use a process to develop a design idea to a workable idea.

Term 2
Use drawing instruments to draw Orthographic projection drawings
Use instruments to draw Paraline drawings.
Use measurement and scale to draw accurate working drawings
Set up a basic CAD drawing
Use basic drawing features of a CAD programme
Produce a basic CAD drawing.
