L2 Architectural Design
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: David Eastwood.
This course will encompass ideation, research, exploration, progression, and communication of design ideas into potential outcomes within the areas of spatial and architectural design. It builds on the skills learnt in L1ARC and prepares studernts for Design and Visual Communication at NCEA Level 3. It also leads to pathways at university level in the areas of construction, engineering, interior design, landscape design, architecture, and urban planning. Students will experiment, develop, respond to feedback, and reflect on their design thinking to improve and refine the product and spatial design ideas they propose.
Students will continue to develop design and visual communication skills and techniques such as freehand drawing, drafting, and 3D modelling in order to strengthen their understanding of how to give form and expression to their ideas in response to design briefs.
Pre-requisites: A/S 92000 and A/S 92001 (10 Credits in L1DVC) or with HOD approval

Subject Overview
Term 1
Research a design movement to inform your design ideas.
Present your research and conceptualize design ideas to the given design brief.
Term 2
Develop a spatial design using graphics and modeling techniques.
Use a range of graphic communication methods to present your thinking.
Term 3
Develop a presentation based on a spatial design
AND / OR
Develop a set of working drawings using ArchiCAD
Finalise presentation or drawing set.
Term 4
Finalise design process for final portfolio submission
