Subject Description

Students will gain knowledge, skills, and experience to explore how and why medium large businesses in New Zealand make operational decisions in response to internal and external factors, conduct market research for a new or existing product, demonstrate understanding and application of motivation theories, demonstrate understanding of cash flow forecasting for a business and explore critical issues that businesses face and find innovative ways to solve them.
Pre-requisites: 12 credits in L1BUS or 12 credits L1 English or 12 credits in L1 Social Sciences, or with LOLA approval

Term 1
Motivation Theories and practice
90847 Students will be learning to:
• collect in-depth evidence about the motivation practice(s) in a business from a range of sources
• fully explain the results of the investigation supported by relevant examples
• justify the link between the motivation theory and the motivation practice
• integrate a Māori business concept(s) where relevant to the motivation theory to fully support explanations
Market Research - introduction and conduct research

• provide an explanation of:
- primary and secondary research
- using tools such as survey, focus group,etc to research
• process data into graphs, tables or reports relevant to the research.
• Write a report on the research
Cashflow Forecast
91868 Students will be learning to: - prepare cashflow statements
- Understand the importance of cashflow
- Explain how external factors impact businesses’ cashflows.
Term 3
90845 Students will be learning to:
• providing an explanation of critical problems such as changes in market, production disruption, internal control issues, etc faced by businesses.
• identifying, explaining, evaluating options to solve those critical problems
90844 Students will be learning to:
• providing explanation of how the effects of external factors on business in terms of
- formation,
- functions,
- people,
- management and
- environment.
• How business respond to these factors and
• Make decisions to mitigate those factors
