Are you scared of the dark? The horror genre is cut up, dissected, and has its guts analysed in Level 2 Media Studies. You'll explore how this genre has changed through the decades, and why it continues to frighten audiences across the globe. From scripting to storyboarding to shooting and editing, you'll do it all in the name of creating your very own scary film trailer.  You'll also be given the opportunity to get up close and personal with real horror at 'Spookers'!

Pre-requisites:  Achieved AS90993, or with HOD approval

Term 1
• What is the horror genre?
• What are the conventions of the horror genre?
• How to tell a scary horror story?
• What is a spec script?
• What are the key narrative points in your horror story?
• Write a draft for your script.
• Peer feedback on your script.
• Refine your script.
• Hand in the final draft of the script.

Term 2
• What is a film trailer?
• What is the structure of a film trailer?
• Adapt your horror script to a film trailer.
• Conduct reconnaissance on your character and location.
• Plan your horror trailer.
• Capture footage for your trailer.
• Craft a layered soundscape for your trailer.
• Edit your horror trailer.

Term 3
• Hand in the final cut of your horror trailer.
• Who is the audience for the horror genre?
• How has the horror changed over time?
• What is Metz’s Genre Evolution Theory?
• What is the relationship between audiences and the horror genre?
• Feedback from Derived Grade Exams

Term 4
• Evaluate the significance of the horror-audience relationship.
• Final revision for the external exam.
