Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: David Eastwood.

Wood Technology focuses on developing students’ understanding of, and skills in, the applications and impact of using wood as a construction material.  Students will learn how work safely and efficiently with equipment and materials, and apply principles of craftpersonship through design and manufacture of a wood based project.   They will gain practical experience using a range of different woodworking skills and techniques, including the use of CNC machinery such as a laser cutter and milling machine.  

This course provides a pathway in woodworking courses at Senior Level.  Students interested in doing the Building and Construction programme in the future should consider this course.

Term 1
Construct a project using a plan
Calculate material quantities for a project
Implement a plan of different manufacturing stages for a project
Use vocabulary used in a design and workshop environment

Term 2
Use tools and machinery in a safe manner
Measure and cut materials accurately
Use marking out and measuring tools to make components to a given plan
Assemble a project using joints and fasteners
Apply finishing systems to a project
