Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Cheng Wang.
- This course builds on skills and language learning in Level 1 Chinese and prepares students for achieving NCEA Level 2 Chinese.
- Upon completing this course, students will be able to communicate a wide range of thoughts, experiences, and ideas in Chinese on areas such as their own cultures and values, Chinese culture vs. NZ culture, their environment, and making future plans.
- Over the course of the year, students have the opportunity to participate in trips, speech and essay competitions, and school cultural activities.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Students will be learning to:
• Talk about their preference for subjects and their future career choices.
• Talk about the pros and cons of different occupations.
• Exchange information about the pros and cons of having a part-time job.
• Discuss how to balance work and study.
Term 2
Students will be learning to:
• Explore the differences between Chinese schools and New Zealand schools.
• Compare school life in China VS New Zealand.
• Explore the differences between teenage life in China and New Zealand.
Term 3
Students will be learning to:
• Talk about the technology they are using at school.
• Talk about the pros and cons of using technology at school.
• Debate the issue of phones in schools.
Term 4
Students will be learning to:
• Give information about their hometown/the places they live.
• Describe the facilities/places around their hometown/ places they live.
• Give information about fun activities to do and places to go around their hometowns/ places they live.
Recommended Prior Learning
At least 5 internal credits and 5 external credits at L1CHI or with HOD approval.
