Subject Description

- Level 2 Health focuses on understanding and addressing various factors that influence wellbeing.
- Students explore how to manage change, enhance community wellbeing, ensure personal safety, and address issues related to sexuality and gender.
- The course emphasises resilience, social justice, and the interconnectedness of personal, interpersonal, and societal factors in health.
- Through practical actions and critical analysis, students develop strategies to improve wellbeing for individuals and communities, reflecting the values of social justice and holistic health.
Pre requisites: Minimum of 10 credits in Level 1 Health or Level 1 English, or with HOD approval

Term 1
Analyse issues related to sexuality and gender to develop strategies for addressing the issues
- explaining influences on gender and sexual identity
- why or how influences impact on gender and sexual identity
- recommending a relevant combination of personal, interpersonal and societal strategies to address the issues
- how recommended strategies to address issues reflect the values of social justice
- the interrelationships between the personal, interpersonal and societal aspects.
Term 2
Take action to enhance an aspect of people’s wellbeing within the school or wider community
- identifying an issue that affects the wellbeing of people within the school or wider community
- developing a workable plan including SMART goals to improve well-being
- implementing the plan
- evaluating the effectiveness of the action by reflecting on the implementation of the plan.
Term 3
Evaluate factors that influence people’s ability to manage change
- explaining risk and protective factors that contribute to people’s ability to manage change situations
- recommending a combination of personal, interpersonal and societal strategies to maintain the protective factors and/or minimise the risk factors.
- showing understanding of how a major life change results in many inter-related changes
- linking the risk and protective factors to the relevant determinants of health
- explaining interrelationships between the personal, interpersonal and societal factors influencing people’s ability to cope with change, or the strategies for building resilience.
Analyse an interpersonal issue(s) that places personal safety at risk
- An interpersonal issue(s) that places personal safety at risk is a situation(s) where power imbalances exist in interactions with others. These power imbalances typically focus on situations involving acts of discrimination, intimidation, victimisation, harassment and bullying.

Recommended Prior Learning
Students will have developed basic prior knowledge from Year 10 Health and Physical Education, and ideally would have taken Level 1 Health.
