Subject Description

  • This course builds on skills and language learning in Level 2 Chinese and prepares students for achieving NCEA Level 3 Chinese. 
  • On completion of this course, students will be able to communicate a wide range of thoughts, experiences, and ideas in Chinese on unfamiliar topics. They will learn how to express their opinions, make personal judgements, and reflect on real issues in Chinese. 
  • Over the course of the year, students have the opportunity to participate in trips, outside competitions, and school cultural activities.

 

Subject Overview

Term 1
Students will be learning to:
-Explore the lifestyle differences between China and New Zealand
-Explore the differences between China’s rural and urban areas and New Zealand’s rural and urban areas
-Talk about the pros and cons of different lifestyles
-Discuss their preference for the lifestyle and give reasons

Term 2
Students will be learning to:
-Talk about how career expectations differ between NZ students and Chinese students
-Discuss why some occupations are more or less popular than others
-Express their opinions about the advantages or disadvantages of certain occupations
-Talk about their own career choices and why they want to follow this path

Term 3
Students will be learning to:
-Explore different cultural practices/trends in China
-Talk about their impressions and/or reactions upon learning about these cultural practices/trends
-Discuss the differences in cultural practices/trends between China and New Zealand


Term 4
Students will be learning to:
-Explore the differences between universities in New Zealand and in other countries
-Talk about the pros and cons of studying in New Zealand and overseas
-Discuss their preference and give the reasons
