L3 Physical Training and Sport
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Alex Eastwood.
- The Level 3 Physical Training and Sport course involves demonstrating quality performance in physical activities, such as badminton and the Tough Guy and Gal 6km mud run.
- This requires the effective, consistent, and accomplished demonstration of various elements and skills, including technical accuracy, control, and strategic decision-making.
- Contemporary leadership principles, such as collaborative and distributed leadership, are researched and applied to draw conclusions about their relevance in physical activity contexts.
- Students develop and implement a personal exercise plan over a minimum of six weeks, focusing on specific fitness goals.
- The course also covers knowledge of injuries, prevention methods, and hazard management related to sports and physical activities.
Pre requisites: 7 credits in Level 2 Physical Education, including 91334 (social responsibility), or with HOD approval
Approximate credits: 18 credits
Material fees: Students need to have a senior or junior physical education uniform
Subject Overview
Term 1
Demonstrate knowledge of injuries, injury prevention and risks and hazards associated with sport or recreation
- students will demonstrate their understanding of injuries, injury prevention, and risks associated with sports or recreation.
- describe various types of injuries that can occur during physical activities, along with their potential causes and ways to prevent or minimise them.
- identify and describe hazards and risks specific to the chosen sport or physical recreation, showing an awareness of potential dangers and safety measures.
Demonstrate quality performance of a physical activity in an applied setting
- students will participate in badminton and the Tough Guy and Gal 6km mud run .
- in badminton, this includes technical accuracy, control, and strategic decision-making, while the mud run demands endurance, agility, and overcoming obstacles.
Term 2
Develop and implement an exercise plan for personal physical fitness
- students are tasked with creating and following their own exercise plan for personal fitness.
- this plan should cover at least six weeks.
- students will be assessed based on their ability to develop the plan, stick to it, and track their progress toward their fitness goals.
Term 3
Examine contemporary leadership principles applied in physical activity contexts
- researching and explaining contemporary leadership principles, and how these are applied, to draw conclusions about their relevance and suitability for physical activity contexts.
- contemporary leadership principles include collaborative leadership, distributed leadership, provision for individual voice and empowerment.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students are recommended to have prior knowledge from Level 1 and 2 Physical Education or Physical Training and Sport.
