L3 Tongan
Subject Description
In Level 3 Tongan, students are expected to explore the views of others, develop and share personal perspectives, and justify, support, or challenge ideas and opinions in different situations and on matters that are beyond their immediate experience. In all their output, it is expected that students will use their developing knowledge of linguistic and cultural forms to help them create meaning.
Pre-requisites: Achieved at least 5 credits from L2TON, or with HOD approval

Subject Overview
Term 1
Students will be learning to understand :
* the Debating process - perspectives, evidence
* Tongan wedding traditions
* New Zealand wedding styles
Term 2
Students will be learning to explore and understand:
* Life as a teenager here in New Zealand compared toTonga.
* the opportunities that are available here in New Zealand for teenagers
* Technophile (lover of new technology) or technophobe?(somebody who dislikes new technology)
Term 3
Students will be learning to:
* Describe how we celebrate international language week here at Onehunga High School
* Explain the process of forest conservation
* Compare life in New Zealand to life in the islands.
Term 4
Students will be learning to:
Be familiar with external exams by doing external exam practices. i.e. Going through past external papers so students are:
*familiar with the types of texts used in the exam - visual text, story, interview, biography, diary entry
*familiar with the type of questions asked
Recommended Prior Learning
Achieved at least 4 credits from L2TON, or with HOD approval.
