Level 2 Geography builds on prior learning with a focus on development. In this course, students will investigate patterns of crime in urban areas and examine perspectives and possible solutions. Students will examine the human development across the globe and analyse differences in development within and between case study countries. There is also a planned trip to the Tongariro National Park to do geographic research on a large natural environment.
Term 1
Students will learn to:
explain the key elements of environments
explain how elements and processes interact to create and shape environments
conduct geographic research in the Tongariro National Park
analyse findings and draw a conclusion from the geographic research
Term 2
Students will learn to:
explain how the tourism development process works
examine the impacts of tourism on people and the environment
identify geographic issues that affect people in Aotearoa New Zealand
explain perspectives people hold on issues that affect them
examine solutions to overtourism issues in Aotearoa New Zealand
Term 3
Students will learn to:
identify spatial patterns that occur in the environment
describe patterns of crime in local and international examples
explain the reasons why patterns of crime can be seen
explain the impacts of crime on people.

Students will learn to:
explain the concept of human development and how it is measured
examine differences in development between locations
explain how natural and cultural factors create differences in development
analyse strategies to improve differences in development
